About Us

Welcome to the Prairie Rose Ranch Nigerian Dwarf Goat Page. We are a small family goat farm located in the northeast corner of South Dakota. The idea to get goats came from me, Hanna (pictured far left in the camo bibs) when I was a teenager. Since then our operation has grown from 4 little goats to 8 permanent adults, and over 57 kids born since 2012.

I still do a lot of the paperwork, but the majority of the muscle is my dad, Doug, who is retired and can be at the farm full time. He took over the majority of the operation since I started college a few years ago. My mom, Connie, also does a good share of help during kidding season, and my sister, Geena, and my brother Alex helps when they are home.

In addition to the breeding stock, we also have a menagerie of other creatures roaming around including geese, chickens, and Sadie the Golden Retriever.

Throughout our 13 years with goats we have lived in both North Dakota and South Dakota. We also have had three different buildings, since a wind storm forced us to build a new shed after our old barn was destroyed in June 2017. In the early years I came across an old cabinet that I painted, decorated, and hung in the barn to hold my supplies (see picture). The cabinet has been moved to our newest shed and remains a written record of all the goats we have ever had. Considering we have only filled one side of the cabinet with goats, you can probably assume we have at least another 10 years in the goat business ahead of us!
